Discharge from Hospital

Patients are discharged with a splint on the nose and stitches on the outside of the nose if an external approach is used. These are removed at review usually on day 6-7 post-op.

There will be other dissolving stitches internally in the nose. These are left alone to dissolve.

I recommend patients continue to take arneca for 7 days post-op.

Patients will feel blocked up, especially the first week post-op when the splint is still on and, to a lesser extent, the second week as well. I recommend either saline douching or steam inhalations to help the nose unblock and also to help get rid of the "crusts" inside the nose (which are normal at that stage).

In terms of pain-relief, most patients are fine with either regular paractemol and/or regular neurofen/ibuprofen.

Patients often ask when they can get back to exercise. Generally, I advise to ease back into (non-contact) sport after 2 weeks.
